Hello to the Tenants of 214 and 196 Rockaway Parkway!

On February 24, 2026, a disabled tenant arrived in our lobby after having surgery. Due to the elevator being out, that tenant had to walk up SEVERAL FLIGHTS to the fourth floor. The following day, I helped another disabled tenant, all the way up to the fifth floor. Needless to say, both tenants were in constant pain getting up to their apartments.

As we realize by now, this elevator issue has to be resolved. It breaks down constantly, which not only inconveniences all tenants, but also puts our disabled neighbors at a much greater risk of injury. Using cheap methods to repair the elevator is NOT HELPING, as the elevator has broken down twice during the recent snowstorm and blizzard. What is actually needed? A complete overhaul.

Additionally, one thing I have noticed about this whole situation is that 911 is of no use. They deem the situation “low propensity,” they will not respond promptly when disabled and/or injured people are facing obstacles to get to their apartments. The whole system is broken and it is all in the landlord’s favor.

It takes (God forbid) something extremely drastic to have anyone respond.

Reform, Reinitialize, Rebuild.

“The elevator system affects me terribly in the sense that I am a woman of age and with many medical problems, and one of the biggest challenges is that I can’t walk properly without the help of either a walker or a wheelchair. And those items cannot go down the stairs. So it was very difficult for my Personal Care Assistant to even carry the walker. I have to crawl down the stairs with a glove on my hand holding the staircase, and the cane, and try to take one step at a time, before my left foot or right foot buckles under me. I can’t, at my age, 75-years old, continue this situation where it breaks down frequently, and stays like that for two and three weeks. And then it is fixed for one day; but by afternoon, it is out again. So, if I go out hoping, ‘Oh yes, the elevator is working, and I can get back up,’ it’s not acceptable, because I have doctor’s appointments, two, three, and four times a week, as if I’m going to work. I cannot continue like this, and I cannot accept paying rent every month and having this type of service. It is not fair. It is simply not fair, and something has to be done. I cannot take it anymore. My health cannot take it. In other words, he’s killing me. Literally, he’s killing me. And you know, I’m wearing a pacemaker. And all that. I can give you a list. The point of the matter is, I’m not a very well person, and I should not be having to be going up and down the staircase to meet my needs when I have an elevator in this building and paying rent. I need help with this. And I would like anyone reading this to join us in expressing what your concerns are, because there is strength in numbers. I’m doing it, and I’m asking you to do it.”
